CNL Lifestyle Properties is a real estate investment trust that invests in properties with a focus on lifestyle-related industries and leases them primarily on a long-term basis. CNL currently owns 13 ski resort properties in North America and is under contract to purchase a third in 2010. CNL also owns 45 golf courses, 20 theme parks, 10 marinas and 8 "Village Retail" cores at the base of ski resorts, including The Village at Northstar, The Village at Copper Mountain (originally developed by Intrawest), the Village at Mammoth (originally developed by Intrawest), The Village at Blue Mountain (originally developed by Intrawest), The Village at Stratton (originally developed by Intrawest), The Village at Snowshoe Mountain (originally developed by Intrawest) and Whistler Creekside (originally developed by Intrawest). Many of CNL's ski properties are managed by Boyne USA or Booth Creek Ski Holdings Inc., and CNL's newest additions are Crested Butte Mountain Resort in Colorado, Okemo Mountain Resort in Vermont, Mount Sunapee Ski Resort in New Hampshire and Big Sky Resort in Montana, which they are under contract to acquire from Boyne USA in 2010. CNL Lifestyle Properties has no official policy on the environmental or social impacts of its holdings. Environmental and social policies and actions vary by resort and run the gamut from poor to proactive. Some of CNL's resorts have recently been or are now heavily involved in expansion and real estate development. CNL Ski Areas: 13 ski areas totaling 14,489 acres of skiable terrain (14 ski areas and 18,301 skiable acres with the inclusion of Big Sky).
