Intrawest is a privately-held company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of private equity funds managed by Fortress Investment Group LLC. It specializes in the development and management of destination resorts throughout North America and Europe. Intrawest also owns 2 other real estate development and marketing companies: Playground and Intrawest Placemaking, and operates a private vacation club called Club Intrawest. Intrawest, Playground, Intrawest Placemaking and Club Intrawest focus on real estate development in mountain ski resorts, golf resorts, beach resorts and high-end destinations such as Palm Springs, Orlando and Las Vegas that are developed with, or supported by, ski areas, golf courses and ocean activities. Intrawest owns or manages 10 ski resorts in Canada and the United States, 16 resorts and "villages" in Canada, the United States and France and both Canadian Mountain Holidays Heli Skiing and Whistler Heli Skiing. Through Intrawest Placemaking, Playground and Club Intrawest, Intrawest owns or manages 63 real estate, hotel, ski and golf properties in Canada, the continental United States, Hawaii, Mexico, New Zealand, Morocco, France, Switzerland Mauritius and the Seychelles, and the company had previously developed an additional 29 properties throughout North America and Hawaii. Intrawest is best known as the developer of mountain “villages” in Whistler BC, Panorama BC, Blue Mountain ON, Mt. Tremblant QC, Stratton VT, Mountain Creek NJ, Snowshoe WV, Solitude UT, Squaw Valley CA, Mammoth Lakes CA, Keystone CO, Copper Mountain CO, Winter Park CO and Arc 1950 France. Intrawest is also currently developing or re-developing "villages" at June Lake CA, Steamboat Springs CO, Canmore AB, Edenarc 1800 France, Flaine France and Verbier Switzerland. Intrawest has no official policy on the environmental or social impacts of its holdings. Environmental and social policies and actions vary by resort. Intrawest's operating model tends to favor increased ski area terrain expansions to add value to, or allow for, new construction of their "villages."
